How will the Welsh Government be monitoring the implementation of sustainable drainage systems, and how many premises in Wales will benefit from this in 2019, 2020, and 2021?
Local Authorities will be asked to undertake annual reporting on the delivery of their SuDS Advisory Body (SAB) function to the Welsh Government. This will provide the basis for monitoring overall service standards. In support of this, each Local Authority has been invited to participate in an Implementation Group, which will include stakeholders from other sectors (such as developers). Part of this Group’s remit will be the development of a monitoring and review framework. In order to help SABs discharge their responsibilities, and to facilitate further collaborative working, I will also be allocating funding support to assist Local Authorities with SAB set-up costs.
With regard to the number of premises likely to benefit from the implementation of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) undertaken in the development of the policy includes information on the likely number of applications. Annexes 1 and 2 of the RIA provide projections for housing, commercial and industrial developments. The RIA forms part of the published Explanatory Memorandum and is available from the link below:
